There was no doubt that Caitlin Clark would end up being a power player in women’s sports, but not even she could have imagined such a meteoric rise to fame. Clark revolutionized women’s college basketball and brought in millions of new fans, then balled out in her debut WNBA season while leading the Indiana Fever to the playoffs. In the meantime, she made plenty of money through partnerships and brand deals.
Her ability to market herself off the court, plus her dominance on it, has drawn some parallels to Serena Williams in tennis. Clark has a ways to go to reach Williams’ status, but she might be closer than we think, and we will see both speaking about the same subject very soon. According to Front Office Sports, Clark and Williams will be on the same panel for an NFL meeting in which the future of flag football is set to be discussed.
Serena Williams and Caitlin Clark could get involved in women’s flag football
The NFL appears to want more input about women’s sports, which is why Clark and Williams will be there. Denver Broncos co-owner Mellody Hobson will also be on the panel, as well as former New York Giants star Eli Manning.
NFL EVP of football operations Troy Vincent shed more light on the inclusion of Clark and Williams, explaining that they want to capture the momentum those two have given women’s sports and use it for women’s flag football.
We don’t get an opportunity to talk about this enough, just the explosion of women in sports. This is happening across the globe, and we want to continue that conversation among our membership.
Williams is actually a minority owner of the Miami Dolphins, so she’s familiar with the NFL industry. Clark is an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and made it out to a couple of games last season.
