Caitlin Clark reveals the lesson Stephanie White taught her during a game against the WNBA champions

WNBA superstarCaitlin Clark has broken records, filled arenas, and captured the basketball world’s attention. Yet even the league’s brightest star experiences moments that force her to slow down and reflect. She revealed as much on the latest episode of the Bird’s Eye View podcast, recalling how a conversation with Stephanie White became a turning point during the June 14 matchup against the reigning champions, the New York Liberty.

Clark remembered that, despite putting up a stellar performance with over 30 points and nearly 10 assists, she committed two turnovers early in the fourth quarter. At that moment, White called her to the bench with a direct message: reduce risk and focus on efficient plays.

Clark recounts the moment

On the podcast, Clark shared that White made her see the importance of the game situation and how certain risks could prove costly. Shortly afterward, the point guard returned to the court and stole the ball, spotting Kelsey Mitchell ready for a fast break. However, she recalled her coach’s words and chose not to make the risky pass. Laughing, she admitted it was one of the toughest decisions of her career-but the right one.

Even with that restraint, Clark finished the night with impressive numbers: 32 points, 9 assists, and 8 rebounds, tying her career high of seven three-pointers and falling just three points shy of her personal WNBA scoring record.

Indiana Fever ends New York Liberty’s undefeated streak

The win was especially sweet for the Indiana Fever. After a slow start, the team found its rhythm in the second quarter and went into halftime with a three-point lead.

The third quarter proved decisive, extending the advantage to 16, and they closed with a 22-17 run in the final period to seal the 102-88 victory. With this result, they snapped New York’s nine-game winning streak to start the season.

Caitlin Clark’s current status in the WNBA

Clark is currently dealing with a groin injury that has kept her sidelined for nine games. Even so, she is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5.0 rebounds per game. White remains optimistic, saying her recovery is progressing well with a careful plan to avoid setbacks and ensure she returns at full strength.
