Caitlin Clark reacts to the bad news of Sophie Cunningham’s season-ending injury with the Indiana Fever

The uncertainty at Indiana Fever is finally over, although this story did not have the best ending: Sophie Cunningham will miss the rest of the 2025 WNBA season.

After suffering an injury to her right knee following a collision with Bria Hartley during Sunday afternoon’s game against the Connecticut Sun, Sophie had to be assisted off the court and was ruled out for the rest of the game.

After days of speculation about her condition, the team confirmed on its official communication channels that she will be out for the rest of the year. Sophie thus joins Indiana’s list of injured players who will miss the rest of the season, including the playoffs.

The list includes Sydney Colson, who tore her left anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), and Aari McDonald, who fractured a bone in her right foot.

Caitlin Clark is also on the injury list, although her condition does not appear to be as serious as that of her three teammates.

CC’s reaction to Sophie’s injury

Without a doubt, Cunningham’s absence was painful for the 23-year-old star. When Sophie arrived in Indiana and joined Caitlin, she was already a familiar face to fans. The 29-year-old guard has been in the league for seven years, although it was this last season that brought her greater popularity and led to her forming a close friendship with the Fever star.

Now, after the news broke, it was CC who shared Indiana’s post on her stories and left a message of support for her friend and teammate: “Love you always soph @sophie_cham,” Clark wrote.

In addition, Caitlin reposted a story from Colson, who also reacted to Sophie’s news. “Ay y’all @aarimcdonald @caitlinclark22 get a load of this guy @sophie_cham,” Syd wrote alongside the Fever post.

In her post, Clark responded: “smh. Crazy bro @sydjcolson.”

To mitigate Cunningham’s absence, the team signed point guard Shey Peddy to a seven-day contract and released point guard Kyra Lambert. She began her WNBA career in 2019 and has averaged 5.9 points and 2.3 assists throughout her career. She will now wear the Indiana Fever colors, wearing number 5 in Friday’s home game against the Minnesota Lynx.
