Caitlin Clark made sure not to waste the WNBA offseason: Why she’s better than ever

Caitlin Clark, the star guard for the Indiana Fever, is entering her second year in the WNBA with a renewed sense of focus and determination.

As one of the league’s brightest young talents, Clark spent her offseason balancing a busy schedule of high-profile events with a relentless commitment to her basketball career.

From attending Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in a VIP tent to being in a suite at a Kansas City Chiefs game alongside Taylor Swift in January, Clark’s offseason was packed with star-studded moments. She rubbed shoulders with icons, including attending the NFL annual meetings with Serena Williams and even appearing at The Masters golf tournament in April.

However, it was what she did after each of these glamorous events that truly impressed her coaches and teammates.

Despite her newfound celebrity status, Clark remained grounded. No matter where her travels took her, she was always back in the gym by 8 a.m. the next day. Amber Cox, general manager of the Indiana Fever, couldn’t help but marvel at Clark’s consistency.

“I kind of marveled at it,” Cox told ESPN. “She’s living this celebrity life but still found time to stay grounded and focused on basketball.”

Dedication to the craft

While other players spent their offseason playing overseas or competing in the new 3-on-3 league, Clark took a different approach. She chose to spend most of her break in the gym, focused solely on improving her game. It was her first real break from basketball since her senior year at Iowa, but Clark still made time for rigorous training, honing her skills and building strength for the upcoming season.

“I think my confidence for this next season will come from knowing that I’ve been consistent,” Clark explained.

“Whether it’s been the weight room, skill development, or shooting-I’ve put in the work.”

This determination didn’t go unnoticed by her coaches. Fever head coach Stephanie White praised Clark’s focus and work ethic.

“She’s far beyond her years in terms of understanding how to work. Most rookies take three years to figure it out, but Caitlin’s already got it.“

Her dedication is paying off. After an impressive rookie year that saw her finish fourth in MVP voting and lead the Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, Clark enters the 2025 season stronger than ever. As the favorite for the 2025 MVP award according to ESPN BET, expectations are high for the talented guard.

Even with the demands of fame, Clark understands the importance of routine. Whether at home in Indianapolis or attending events, she prioritized her workout schedule, believing that staying in shape was crucial for her success.

For Clark, it’s about finding the balance between being Caitlin Clark-the rising basketball star-and staying grounded in her daily routine.

“It was nice to get away from everything and just be Caitlin,” she reflected.

“I love basketball and being in the spotlight, but stepping back from it all was really healthy for me.”
