Caitlin Clark highlights Stephanie White’s qualities as she appears to ‘bash’ Christie Sides

Caitlin Clark may be just one season into her professional career, but the Indiana Fever star is already making her voice heard when it comes to the direction of the franchise.

During an appearance on The Bird & Taurasi Show, hosted by WNBA icons Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi, Clark delivered high praise for her new head coach Stephanie White, making it clear she’s enthusiastic about the team’s leadership change following the departure of Christie Sides.

“[Stephanie White] is one of the smartest basketball minds I’ve ever been around,” Clark said during the broadcast. “Everybody admires her and the way she coaches, the way she leads. I’m excited to learn from her.”

Clark’s glowing endorsement of White came with no mention of Sides, whom the Fever parted ways with after a 20-20 season and a first-round playoff exit in 2024.

Though Sides helped lead Indiana to their first postseason appearance since 2016, the organization ultimately opted for a change – bringing in White, who has a rich history with the franchise both as a player and former head coach.

A powerful new partnership takes shape in Indiana

White’s return to the Fever marks a pivotal move for a team poised to rise. The former WNBA Coach of the Year finalist guided Indiana to the 2015 WNBA Finals and boasts a career regular season record of 92-56.

Known for her calm demeanor and cerebral approach to the game, White is now tasked with developing a young but highly talented roster, headlined by Clark.

The partnership is already showing promise. Clark, who averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game in her rookie campaign, made an immediate impact as both a scorer and facilitator.

With White now at the helm, the Fever are hoping to continue their climb and re-establish themselves as perennial contenders in the WNBA.

White’s presence also provides Clark with an opportunity to be mentored by a coach who understands the pressures of leading a team – and of doing so in Indiana.

White played for the Fever from 2000 to 2004 and previously served as their head coach from 2015 to 2016, making her return to the organization both strategic and sentimental.

Clark’s comments may also reflect deeper feelings about her time under Sides, who was often criticized for inconsistent rotations and decision-making late in games during the 2024 season.

While Clark never directly addressed those issues, her sharp praise of White has fueled speculation that she’s relieved to be under new leadership.

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on how this dynamic duo performs. With one of the league’s brightest stars paired with a seasoned, respected coach, the Indiana Fever are aiming to become a legitimate force in the WNBA once again.
