Caitlin Clark ‘helps’ Stephen Curry break Michael Jordan’s record

Steph Curry made NBA history Sunday night while wearing sneakers closely tied to Caitlin Clark, adding an unexpected crossover moment as he surpassed Michael Jordan in a long-standing scoring record.

The Golden State guard took the floor against Atlanta in light armory blue Kobe 6 PEs, a model popularized by Clark, and the footwear quickly became part of the conversation as Curry delivered another milestone performance.

Curry finished with 31 points at Chase Center, enough to give him the most 30-point games by a guard after turning 30, officially pushing him past Jordan and further separating his late-career résumé.

The Warriors lost 124-111, yet the result barely registered compared with the historical context, as Curry continued stacking elite scoring nights deep into his 17th NBA season.

Curry and Clark share clear parallels, as generational shooters who stretch defenses from the logo and openly support each other’s leagues, often praising the skill level across men’s and women’s basketball.

Clark‘s influence has extended into sneaker culture, especially through Kobe Bryant models she frequently wears, turning specific colorways into staples and blurring the line between performance gear and statement pieces.

The Kobe 6 PEs Curry wore stood out during warmups, and the attention followed him through the night as he reached a mark few thought possible at his age.

Despite an uneven shooting night from deep, Curry stayed aggressive, mixing drives and midrange looks to reach 31 points, while adding three rebounds and five assists in 33 minutes.

Steph Curry proves age is just a number in NBA

At 37, Curry‘s scoring pace remains staggering, as he has now recorded 13 games of at least 30 points in just 30 appearances this season, including four outings of 40 or more.

Those numbers underline why Curry‘s prime has stretched unusually long, pairing elite conditioning with a shooting skill set that ages more gracefully than most high-usage guard styles.

Sunday also carried another layer of history, as Curry and his father Dell moved past Kobe Bryant and Joe Bryant for second on the NBA’s all-time father-son scoring list.

The Curry duo now sits at 38,896 combined points, edging the Bryants by one, and trailing only LeBron James and Bronny, who lead comfortably due to LeBron’s extended dominance.

Beyond records, Curry‘s shoe choice reinforced his visible support for Clark and the WNBA, especially as fans await Clark‘s full return after injuries disrupted much of her second pro season.

Curry is currently averaging 28.8 points, 4.6 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.7 made threes per game, production that rivals his MVP years despite heavier defensive attention.

Golden State’s broader picture remains mixed, however, as injuries and inconsistency have left the Warriors at 21-19 through 40 games, holding the No. 8 seed in the West.

The team will be back in action on January 13 when they welcome the Portland Trail Blazers to the Chase Center, looking to move level with Kevin Durant’s Houston Rockets with a victory. Tip-off is from 23:00 ET/20:00 PT.
