Caitlin Clark has the solution to reach an agreement with the WNBA on the CBA: Breanna Stewart supports her

The WNBA and the WNBPA have not been able to reach common ground regarding the needs of one side and the options the other is willing to offer. This situation has placed both parties in a clear impasse as the 2026 season approaches, with a little more than two months remaining before it is scheduled to begin.

The new collective bargaining agreement has not yet been finalized due to the gap between what the players hope to obtain and what the league is willing to concede. The WNBA recently submitted a new counterproposal, and everything suggests that Caitlin Clark would be supportive of that approach.

The players’ union has a new offer on the table

According to information provided by Front Office Sports, this past Friday, March 6, 2026, the WNBA sent a counterproposal to the players’ union. From the perspective of the most representative player in the league today, both sides must fight to reach common ground.

Caitlin Clark believes the parties should meet with firm intention, genuine willingness, and the desire to close a deal that benefits everyone involved.

I don’t understand why we don’t just get in a room and iron it out and shake hands.”…”That’s how business is. You look each other in the eye, you shake hands, you respect both sides. For me, that’s what I would love to see.

Fortunately for the Indiana Fever star, her comments resonated with the vice president of the WNBPA and New York Liberty player, Breanna Stewart. For her as well, it is essential that both sides sit down, lay their cards on the table, speak honestly, and reach the best possible agreement.

I think that would be great for us all to sit in a room until we really get it done.”… “If that means sitting in there for hours and hours at a time, let’s do it. That’s for the better of the player. While a situation like that has never happened before, there’s a first time for everything.

Is the WNBA’s 2026 season at risk?

The WNBA has already stated that if an agreement for the new collective bargaining contract is not reached by March 10, then the start of the 2026 season, which is scheduled for May 8, could be postponed.

Such a scenario would create serious complications for the league. It would also carry the risk of having contracts revoked if the competition cannot begin on time and under the expected conditions.

For that reason, both sides must reach an agreement before the deadline. Doing so would allow the league and the players to begin shaping the upcoming season with clarity and stability, ensuring that preparations, scheduling, and contractual commitments can move forward without uncertainty.

Negotiators on both sides also understand that the longer discussions remain stalled, the greater the pressure becomes from sponsors, broadcasters, and fans who expect the league to continue its recent growth and maintain the momentum generated by the arrival of new stars.
