After her fantastic return to the court in the New York Liberty‘s trashing, Caitlin Clark returned to Gainbridge Fieldhouse to once again be the star for the Indiana Fever. Without going all out, Clark showed why she is the top star in the WNBA. On June 17, despite taking several hard hits during the game, the 23-year-old led her team to an 88-71 win over the Connecticut Sun, proving that nothing can throw her off her game.

And there’s more: with this performance, she became the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 100 points and 50 assists in a season, according to Polymarket Hoops. A record that highlights her impact-even with the physical play she’s constantly facing.

A native of Iowa who shattered the NCAA scoring record with 3,951 points, Clark entered the WNBA as the No. 1 pick in the 2024 Draft and quickly became a fan favorite. Her game-marked by deep threes and flashy assists reminiscent of Stephen Curry-has packed arenas and boosted the popularity of women’s basketball.

But this game came with controversy. As Hater Report put it: “Caitlin Clark gets hit hard again and again with no call…“-a clear nod to how aggressively she’s being guarded. Fans definitely noticed.

But the game was so violent, especially against Clark, that even Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy tweeted, “Kick Marina Maybrey out of the league,” referring to the Sun player who was especially aggressive in her play against the Iowa legend.

On X, another user wrote: “Caitlin Clark is a tank but this is getting ridiculous,” venting frustration over the lack of calls in her favor. Another fan added: “Caitlin Clark carrying the load again while taking hits… refs need to step up,” echoing growing concern about the physical toll on her.
