It’s been a rocky past month-and-a-half for Caitlin Clark. An early-season injury knocked her out for three weeks, while another injury sidelined her for two weeks after she returned from the initial injury to play just five games. In the process, her efficiency on the court has taken a hit.
That was apparent once again in the Indiana Fever‘s loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Wednesday night. The team has been unable to find consistency during this season, partly due to Clark’s injuries, but also because of a general lack of chemistry in how they play. As if not playing to her high standards wasn’t rough enough, Clark also watched her Iowa teammate from college, Kate Martin, extend a shocking streak over her.
Kate Martin is undefeated against Iowa teammate Caitlin Clark in the WNBA
Following the Valkyries’ win over the Fever on Wednesday night, a stunning stat emerged regarding Martin and Clark. Since the two entered the WNBA, Martin has won all six contests they have played against each other.
Martin hasn’t been a world beater in any of those meetings, but she has played at least a minor role in them. In her two wins over Clark’s Fever this season, Martin has accumulated 14 points, seven rebounds and contributed in other areas.
After struggling to find playing team with a talented Aces team in 2024, Martin has found a spot with the Valkyries this season. Even though Clark is the better player, Martin can claim dominance over her in the win-loss column for a while.
