Caitlin Clark and Connor McCaffery are proving that love and basketball go hand in hand. On Valentine’s Day, McCaffery shared a heartfelt tribute to Clark on his Instagram story, posting a black-and-white photo of the couple with the caption, “V day,” followed by, “Love you @caitlinclark22.”

The romantic post came just weeks after the two celebrated Clark’s 23rd birthday, where McCaffery once again showed his admiration for the WNBA star. “You have an incredible ability to inspire and lift up those around you, and I am lucky to learn from you every day,” he wrote in his January 22 birthday message. “Thank you for always being you. I love you.”

A relationship built on sports and support

Clark and McCaffery’s relationship dates back to June 2023, when they began dating after meeting as student-athletes at the University of Iowa. Clark was rewriting NCAA record books with the Hawkeyes, while McCaffery played for the men’s basketball team under his father, longtime Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery.

The couple celebrated their first anniversary on April 25, 2024, with Clark taking to social media to express her appreciation. “One year of the best mems w my fav person,” she wrote. “You make everyday better and I can’t wait for many more adventures together… love you.”

Beyond their social media posts, Clark and McCaffery have been spotted enjoying various sporting events together, including a Yankees game in August and a charity gala for the Indiana Pacers in November.

McCaffery’s coaching journey and Clark’s rising WNBA career

After finishing his playing career at Iowa, McCaffery pursued a coaching path, joining Butler University’s men’s basketball staff following a brief stint with the Indiana Pacers. Meanwhile, Clark has continued to make history, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer across men’s and women’s basketball before the Hawkeyes retired her No. 22 jersey on February 2.

Now gearing up for her second season with the Indiana Fever, the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year is focused on building her professional career. However, she has opted out of participating in Unrivaled, the new 3-on-3 women’s basketball league, as she continues her journey in the WNBA.

With their careers on the rise, Clark and McCaffery continue to support each other-both on and off the court-making their relationship one to watch in the world of sports.
