Caitlin Clark fought to keep Kelsey Mitchell in Indiana and of course she won

Kelsey Mitchell didn’t plan to leave. Not exactly. But when the WNBA offseason rolled around, the weight of years spent carrying the Indiana Fever-through losing seasons, empty arenas, and revolving doors of coaches-meant free agency felt different this time.

She had options. Real ones. And after what she called “the toughest stretch of basketball I’ve ever lived through,” no one would’ve blamed her for walking.

But Caitlin Clark had other ideas.

While most of the headlines orbit Clark’s on-court brilliance-league-leading 8.4 assists, sold-out arenas, non-stop highlight reels-her first major win in the pros might’ve come before the season even tipped. According to Clark, re-signing Mitchell wasn’t up for debate.
