Caitlin Clark expected to address injury as Fever look to regain momentum

The Indiana Fever have had a shaky start to the 2025 WNBA season, and the absence of Caitlin Clark is being felt across the court.

Diagnosed with a strained quadriceps just over a week ago, the star rookie has missed several games and is reportedly set to speak to reporters Thursday with an update on her status.

For a team with championship aspirations, her potential return could not come at a more critical time.

Without Clark in the lineup, the Fever dropped their first two games but managed to snap the skid with an 85-76 victory over the Washington Mystics.

That win improved their record to 3-4, yet upcoming matchups against the Atlanta Dream and New York Liberty loom large. If Clark remains sidelined, the road ahead becomes significantly steeper.

Injuries pile up as Indiana looks for answers

Clark took the league by storm in her debut WNBA season, becoming an All-Star and leading the league in assists. She also claimed the 2024 Rookie of the Year award while guiding Indiana to its first playoff appearance in eight years.

With additional veteran talent onboard, including Natasha Howard and DeWanna Bonner, the Fever were widely projected as title contenders heading into 2025.

That optimism has been tested. In addition to Clark‘s injury, the Fever were dealt another blow last Friday when guards Sophie Cunningham and Sydney Colson exited their game against the Connecticut Sun with ankle and leg injuries.

The growing list of unavailable players has forced Indiana to adapt quickly, both in tactics and personnel.

To cope with the depleted roster, the Fever utilized the WNBA’s hardship exemption to sign Aari McDonald, the former Arizona Wildcats star and third overall pick in the 2021 draft.

McDonald, who has yet to fully establish herself in the pros, now has an opportunity to prove her value during this stretch.

Still, Clark‘s presence remains irreplaceable. She was the engine behind Indiana’s offense last season, not only orchestrating plays but elevating the overall level of her teammates. Her vision, passing, and deep shooting range brought a dynamic edge to the Fever’s game plan.

While no definitive timeline has been confirmed, Clark‘s upcoming media availability could offer clarity. Any indication of her nearing a return would be welcome news, especially with the Fever desperate to build consistency in the early stages of the season.

The pressure is mounting, but the campaign is far from lost. If Clark can recover quickly and the team regains its rhythm, Indiana still has the pieces to challenge for a top playoff seed.

Until then, the Fever will have to lean on depth, resilience, and hope that their star is back in action sooner rather than later.
