The WNBA found its disruptive player, the one who changed its face and transformed the business overnight. Women’s basketball experienced a revolution with the arrival of Indiana Fever player Caitlin Clark.

In just two years, her image provided international visibility, and for her teammates and herself, it created the opportunity that, starting in the 2026 season, they can earn tremendous income that once seemed like distant dreams.

With all of this unfolding, Clark is now fully aware that her presence is vital and that the role she plays for both players and the league, although never imagined, has become an inherent part of who she is.

The positive changes that arrived with Caitlin Clark in the WNBA

Ratings skyrocketed with Caitlin’s presence on WNBA courts. Her participation in games significantly boosts audiences. Her team, the Indiana Fever, is the second most valuable franchise, trailing only the New York Liberty.

They went from generating between $14.4 million and $52.3 million in gross domestic product to producing $82.5 million in consumables. To make it even clearer, in 2024, Clark’s rookie year, she contributed 25% of the league’s revenue.

A single player provided the momentum the WNBA had been seeking for years, and with her emergence, they finally achieved it.

I honestly think I’m just very much myself. That’s how I try to approach it.”…”I’m not here. This was never my goal to change women’s sports. Like I just showed up and I played and I loved every single second of it. And, I feel a responsibility to show up and put a smile on everybody’s face that buys a ticket and comes and watches us play.

Clark said on her second NBC appearance at the Knicks-Thunder game.

Her deep passion for the game and the way she enjoys being in uniform with the ball in her hands place her as the league’s most beloved figure. However, there is also a downside to having immense fame and popularity.

Unfortunately, during the 2025 season, she was only able to play thirteen games. Injuries kept her sidelined for most of the campaign, especially toward the end. Without her on the court, audiences dropped drastically.

In 2025, broadcasts on ABC averaged just 2.19 million viewers, representing a 36% decline compared to the previous year, when the league recorded a historic 3.44 million viewers.

The rivalry between Caitlin and Angel Reese has greatly contributed to the WNBA’s growth. Their matchups have kept fans engaged, closely following their duels and everything that unfolds between them.
