Caitlin Clark has missed three games in a row due to a groin injury, but luckily the Indiana Fever have won all three of those games, good enough for third place in the WNBA Eastern Conference, and 7th overall.
Guard Kelsey Mitchell has stepped up in a big way for Indiana, averaging 23 points, while All-Star center/forward Aliyah Boston has contributed with 17.7 points and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, veteran forward Natasha Howard has recorded three straight double-doubles.
Coach Stephanie White has highlighted the Fever‘s Comissioner’s Cup title after beating the Minnesota Lynx, 74-59 on Tuesday, the franchise’s first victory in the tournament since the competition’s inception, in 2021. “It’s special,” White said after the win.
Caitlin Clark comforts Sophie Cunningham
During a timeout in a recent Indiana Fever game, Caitlin Clark was seen comforting teammate Sophie Cunningham, who had been visibly frustrated after being repeatedly left open without receiving the ball, which left her feeling uneasy and angry.
With Clark sidelined by injury, Indiana has struggled to generate offense from the perimeter. Cunningham scored off her own steals, but the team’s lack of passing and low 3-point attempts continue to be a red flag for WNBA insiders and fans alike.
The Fever rank near the bottom in 3-point shots attempted despite having a winning record. Teams like the Lynx and Liberty lead in shooting efficiency, and unless Indiana finds its rhythm soon, even Caitlin’s return might not be enough.
The Fever is eager to keep its winning ways
The red-hot Indiana Fever look to continue their winning ways on Saturday when they welcome the Los Angeles Sparks to Gainbridge Fieldhouse for the second game of a season-long five-game homestand. Indiana‘s defense has been excellent lately.
The Fever limited the league-leading Minnesota Lynx to just 39 points over the final three quarters on Tuesday, then held Las Vegas to 26.2 percent shooting in an 81-54 rout of the Aces on Thursday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks have the second-worst record in the WNBA, but they did hand the Fever their last loss, outscoring Indiana 35-17 in the fourth quarter of an 85-75 victory at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on June 26. That is Los Angeles‘ lone win in its last seven contests.
