In the aftermath of Caitlin Clark‘s historic rookie season, the Indiana Fever is undoubtedly seeking ways to maximize the star guard’s talents while she is on her rookie-scale contract. After making a surprise playoff appearance in Clark‘s debut pro season, Indiana has to decide whether to maintain the roster that got to the postseason…or whether to go for the jugular in 2025.
Amid the Las Vegas Aces’ wobbling title defense and squads that are potentially “aging out” in Connecticut and New York, the Fever has a unique opportunity to attack free agency while harboring legitimate championship ambitions. And one of the franchise’s top decision-makers seems ready for the step up.
Clark’s presence could be decisive in free agency
Fever general manager and former coach Lin Dunn has told a local radio station that pending free agents and wantaway WNBA stars have gotten in touch with Indiana to express their interest in potentially moving there this offseason — meaning there is potential for the Fever to build a “superteam” on par with the Aces and the Liberty.
“(Agents) are letting (us) know that their player might be available for a trade or that they might be available in free agency,” Dunn told 107.5 The Fan in Indianapolis. “And that they would love to play with Clark.”
The 2025 WNBA free agent class is loaded with talent, including two-time MVP Breanna Stewart and career triple-doubles leader Alyssa Thomas. DiJonai Carrington and Chennedy Carter — guards with whom Clark tussled during her rookie season — are also out of contract, along with star forward Satou Sabally and WNBA all-time scoring leader Diana Taurasi.
Whether any of these particular players would “love to play with Clark” is unknown for certain at this time, but it is clear that the Fever are not planning to return to the WNBA’s basement and are actively seeking high-level players to join Clark and Aliyah Boston in Indy. A new era has well and truly started for the Fever — will a championship follow?
