Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese make up and silence the haters with several plays together that go viral

The narrative surrounding Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has long been one of fierce competition, but their performance on Saturday night offered a different script.

During Team USA‘s 93-59 victory over Italy in San Juan, the focus shifted from viral sideline clips to direct on-court collaboration.

While much of the early tournament chatter centered on a perceived missed handshake between the two stars, their synergy during play suggested a singular shared objective: securing a dominant third win for the American squad.

This newfound camaraderie was particularly evident in the first quarter when, with Team USA leading 21-11, Reese set a decisive screen that allowed Clark to find open space on the perimeter before feeding the ball back to Reese for a smooth interior finish.

Building chemistry for the 2026 World Cup

The positive spotlight on their partnership comes at a critical time for the national team, which is currently testing various roster combinations to find the most effective pairings for the 2026 World Cup in Berlin.

Despite the external noise, both players have demonstrated a high level of professionalism throughout the qualifying phase.

Clark, the Indiana Fever standout, finished the game with 12 points, while the Chicago Sky’s Reese anchored the interior with five points and seven rebounds.

Their ability to flourish on the same side of the ball has provided head coach Kara Lawson with a versatile offensive engine that can capitalize on both Clark‘s elite playmaking and Reese‘s physical presence in the paint.

Online debates and tactical adjustments

Social media remains a double-edged sword for the duo, as even the smallest interactions are scrutinized for signs of tension.

A clip from earlier in the tournament, which appeared to show Clark missing a handshake with Reese while greeting other teammates, was widely circulated and commented upon by figures such as Dave Portnoy, who noted on X: “I don’t think Caitlin saw Angel, but I really hope she did.”

However, the highlights from the Italy game served as a powerful counter-narrative to these viral moments of controversy.

By executing successful pick-and-roll plays and high-low entries, the two stars are effectively using their on-court performance to push back against the claim that their history as rivals prevents them from being effective teammates.

The growth in their chemistry isn’t entirely a new development, as flashes of this connection were visible even in the previous win against Puerto Rico.

In that contest, Clark found Reese on the wing before receiving a return pass and driving toward the rim, ultimately finding Reese again for an easy bucket inside.
