BU Soccer controversy: 99 former players push back on Alex Cooper’s harassment claims

Nearly 100 former Boston University women’s soccer players are speaking up-and their message is clear: they’re standing behind their former coach, Nancy Feldman.

In a letter reportedly obtained by TMZ Sports, 99 BU alumni expressed support for Feldman, just days after podcast host and author Alex Cooper accused the longtime coach of sexual harassment. The allegations came to light in Cooper’s new Hulu docuseries Call Her Alex, which debuted at the Tribeca Festival and quickly stirred headlines.

“We were never at risk or witness to anything that could be considered sexual harassment,” the alumni wrote. “She led with professionalism and integrity.”

The letter doesn’t aim to silence or discredit Cooper’s account, the athletes say. Instead, it’s meant to offer another perspective-one shaped by years of working closely with Feldman, who coached BU for over 25 years before retiring in 2022. For many of them, she wasn’t just a coach; she was a lifelong mentor.

A Community Divided: Two Stories, One Legacy

Cooper’s version of events is deeply personal and painful. In the docuseries-and in a follow-up Instagram post-she describes Feldman as abusive and controlling. “She made my life a living hell and abused her power over me,”Cooper wrote. “I reported the abuse to the athletic director, and I was ignored.”

Boston University responded to the allegations with a statement to PEOPLE on June 12, reaffirming their “zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment” and encouraging students to report concerns through their Equal Opportunity Office.

Still, the contrast between Cooper’s story and the alumni letter is striking. While the university has not commented on the letter specifically, the conversation surrounding it continues to evolve-online and within the BU community.

As of now, Feldman has not made a public statement regarding the allegations.
