Bryson DeChambeau, a prominent LIV Tour professional, recently played a round of golf with former President Donald Trump, and has spoken extensively about the golfing skills of the current Republican candidate.
The game, part of DeChambeau‘s popular “Break 50” web series in July, garnered over 11.7 million views and raised 250,000 dollars for the Wounded Warrior Project.
DeChambeau shot an impressive 22-under over 18 holes in the scramble format, but it was Trump‘s golf skills that truly caught his attention.
What impressed DeChambeau about Trump’s golf skills?
DeChambeau was particularly impressed by Trump’s iron game.
“Man, his iron play was great,” DeChambeau shared in an interview with Golf.com.
“I can’t tell you the number of times he stuffed it on the green within 30 feet in regulation. His driver swing is the most repeatable thing I have ever seen.
“I wish mine was that repeatable. Really, I do.”
Despite the strong numbers on the scorecard, it was Trump’s consistent and reliable iron shots that stood out most to the pro golfer, with many now suspecting that Trump wasn’t lying about his golf prowess.
DeChambeau criticized for playing golf with Trump
Although DeChambeau received some criticism for playing a round with Trump, he remained focused on the event’s main goals: creating engaging content and raising money for charity.
“It’s sad some people feel that way,” DeChambeau said.
This was not his first venture into politically motivated golf, as he has previously used a Trump-branded bag, played alongside Trump in pro-ams, and even gifted the former president a set of clubs.
DeChambeau‘s approach was to keep politics out of the event, emphasizing the importance of entertaining content and charitable fundraising.
“Politicians are divisive figures for sure, and I respect and understand that,” DeChambeau said at a LIV tournament in England.
“But creating content and raising money for charity were the main focus. We tried to take the politics out of it and just have fun.”
