Brutal life of a boxing promoter: Eddie Hearn tells all of lifestyle that nearly gave him a heart attack

Eddie Hearn, one of the most recognizable figures in boxing promotion, is clearing the air about false rumors surrounding his retirement from the sport. In a recent conversation, Hearn addressed speculation that he was stepping away following news of Dana White and Turki Alalshikh’s new boxing league.

“Some fake Twitter thing was like, ‘Oh, Eddie is retiring from the sport,'” Hearn shared. “Well, no, I’m not.” Hearn, who helms Matchroom Boxing, remains at the forefront of global sports promotion, juggling boxing cards and other ventures like a massive 256-player nine-ball pool tournament scheduled for August.

His demanding schedule sees him traveling extensively, only spending 120 days in the United Kingdom in 2024, and facing the physical and mental tolls of life on the road. “It’s not the greatest lifestyle in the world at times, and probably not the healthiest,” he admitted.

Looking to continue his legacy but taking care of himself

Health concerns are not unfamiliar to Hearn, who has a family history of heart attacks at a young age. Now approaching 46, he has taken proactive measures, including regular health checks and embracing physical fitness under the guidance of trainer Kai Peacock. Hearn credits his fitness routine with not only preventing potential health issues but also maintaining his mental resilience.

“Honestly, I think if I hadn’t started training, I would 100 percent have a heart attack,” Hearn said. Despite the rumors and the challenges, Hearn remains deeply invested in his work, managing fighters and overseeing events across continents. However, he recognizes the mixed reception promoters often receive from fans.

Known for his outspoken nature, Hearn continues to attract both praise and criticism in equal measure, a dynamic he accepts as part of the job. As he continues to navigate the high-stakes world of boxing, Hearn shows no signs of slowing down. Whether addressing logistical headaches, balancing global commitments, or preparing fighters for the ring, Hearn’s passion for the sport keeps him firmly in the game, rumors to the contrary notwithstanding.
