Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry has drawn a striking comparison between Travis Hunter and MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani, highlighting Hunter’s exceptional versatility as a dual-threat player.

Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, showcased his prowess by excelling as both a wide receiver and a cornerback at the University of Colorado. Berry’s remarks underscore Hunter’s unique skill set, making him a standout prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft.

Travis Hunter: A dual-threat phenomenon

During his tenure at Colorado, Travis Hunter amassed impressive statistics, including 96 receptions for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver, along with four interceptions and 11 pass break-ups as a cornerback.

His ability to dominate on both sides of the ball has led to discussions about his potential role in the NFL. While many scouts project him as a cornerback, Berry envisions Hunter primarily as a wide receiver, emphasizing his exceptional ball skills and playmaking abilities.

“Browns GM Andrew Berry says that they see Travis Hunter 1st as WR, 2nd on D. They won’t cap him but notes what he’s trying to do hasn’t been done in NFL. Berry ‘It’s a little bit like Ohtani. Pitcher or hitter he’s an outstanding player. You get a unicorn if you use him both ways’,” NFL analyst Cameron Wolfe wrote on X.

Berry’s perspective aligns with the Browns’ current roster needs. With established cornerbacks like Denzel Ward, Martin Emerson Jr., and Greg Newsome II, the addition of Hunter would bolster the team’s receiving corps, providing a dynamic playmaker alongside Pro Bowl receiver Jerry Jeudy.

Berry’s acknowledgment of Hunter’s two-way capabilities reflects a strategic approach to roster construction, aiming to maximize the impact of versatile players.

As the NFL Draft approaches, all eyes will be on the Cleveland Browns to see if they seize the opportunity to select a player of Hunter’s caliber. His unique skill set and potential to contribute on both offense and defense make him a compelling choice for any team looking to enhance their roster with a multifaceted talent.
