The Los Angeles Lakers lost again. The Golden State Warriors handed the Lakers their second consecutive preseason defeat with a score of 111-103, but a light is beginning to shine. The team looked better overall, and Bronny James, in particular, made a strong impression with his best basketball yet.
Young James’ transition from college to professional basketball hasn’t been easy. In his rookie year, Bronny averaged just 6.7 minutes per game, 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, and 0.8 assists.
Fans and critics aren’t on his side, and his abysmal performance in the preseason opener against the Phoenix Suns, in which he shot just 1-for-12 from the field, didn’t help his case at all.
Most consider Bronny not NBA material; however, his performance against the Warriors could change the narrative. Especially a dunk that showcased his true potential.

Bronny’s numbers improved very slightly compared to the game against the Suns. Against the Warriors, the Lakers’ sophomore scored five points, grabbed three rebounds, and dished out three assists.
What truly captivated the crowd and his teammates was his fourth-quarter putback slam. The play started when James made a short pass to Dalton Knecht, who missed his long-range shot.
Showing off his good court vision, Bronny waited for the opening, slid through the defenders, and dunked the rebound, earning a standing ovation from the crowd and congratulations from his teammates.
Overall, the action was flashy, elegant, and gave a good glimpse of what Bronny can do if he gains confidence. Head coach J.J. Redick is surely taking note.
What’s next for Bronny and the Lakers
Most analysts believe that starting this season, the Lakers will center around Luka Doncic. LeBron will be back on the team, but will cede the driving seat to the Slovenian.
Rui Hachimura, DeAndre Dayton, and likely Jarred Vanderbilt will complete the starting five. This would leave sophomores like Bronny and Knecht as backups off the bench.
However, to leave the G League and earn a spot on the team, James Jr. needs to stop flashing and show consistency. More plays like Sunday’s would put him in the crosshairs of Redick and the fans.
