NBA rookie Bronny James stole the headlines off the court this week after celebrating his girlfriend Parker Whitfield’s 21st birthday with a heartfelt and touching post on Instagram that showed a little bit of the romantic side of LeBron James’ son.
A basic yet meaningful gesture
On Sept. 2, the 20-year-old Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard posted a photo of Parker blowing out candles on a specially decorated cake. Captioning the photo, Bronny posted a simple but sincere greeting:
“Happy bday to my everything.“
The gesture, while understated, drew instant attention for its sincerity and romanticism. Fans complimented Bronny for openly expressing a sincere and light-hearted display of love amidst the chaos of his NBA life.
Parker Whitfield a Spelman College student whose parents are actresses Salli Richardson-Whitfield and actor Dondré T. Whitfield, celebrated the day with humor. She captioned one of her birthday status updates:
“Berry much legal!!“
Bronny followed suit with good humor, responding on the status update with: “Love you berry much baby.” The exchange was enough to prove the couple has undeniable chemistry and a loving, funny connection.
A relationship in the public eye
The romance of the couple first came out in the 2024 Paris Olympics, when the two were seen together. Parker later publicly confirmed the relationship on the National Boyfriend Day, and they are now among the most spoken-about young couples with NBA affiliations.
Their journey started at Sierra Canyon School in Los Angeles, where Parker played softball and Bronny played basketball. Since then, they have developed as individuals as well as in the public eye, keeping their off-court life separated from the media glare and spotlight.
For Bronny James, who was just starting his pro career alongside his dad LeBron James in the NBA, the act was more than a birthday gift. It was an expression of vulnerability and relatability to show that even with the brightest stage, he feels he owes it to the people he cares about most.

Scouts see him as a 3-and-D guard with potential for a substitute role. Some of Lakers leaders, like Jeanie Buss, praised the work ethic of the young player, while Gilbert Arenas noted LeBron’s guidance in protecting Bronny’s development. He still has a lot to prove.
Though the path is challenging, steady growth could help Bronny carve out his own NBA identity beyond his father’s shadow and protection.
