Bronny James shows a fearless mentality as he throws down a hard layup against the Celtics

Bronny James is causing a good impression during the NBA Summer League for the Los Angeles Lakers, as the young guard looks to have more activity with the team when the 2025-2026 regular season begins, in October.

The second-year young guard averaged 2.3 points, 0.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists on 31.3% shooting during the 27 games he played with the first team – 6.7 minutes per match -, as he was mostly assigned to the G-League.

Amidst the LeBron James –Los Angeles Lakers drama, Bronny is focusing in improving his game and becoming a key piece for the team, with the hope of getting more chances of displaying his point guard abilities as the Purple and Gold start a new chapter under shooting guard Luka Doncic‘s leadership.

Bronny James shows a fearless mentality

Bronny James had his most impressive NBA Summer League showing so far, scoring 18 points against the Boston Celtics on 7-of-13 shooting. Unfortunately, the Los Angeles Lakers lost the game 87-78 and fell to the 17th spot of the Summer League standings, with a 1-3 record.

During the intense game, Bronny pulled off an and-1 jelly layup and used a crafty Euro step to fake out big man Kenneth Lofton Jr. It was an impressive play that showed James’ toughness and determination, something that could help the young guard in his NBA career.

The former Duke Blue Devils standout DJ Steward followed up with 14 points, five assists and a steal, while Cole Swider and Christian Koloko added 12 points each. Guard Jordan Walsh delivered 17 points for the Boston Celtics, with an efficient 6-for-11 shooting, including 2-for-4 from deep.

Lakers hope to be more competitive with new additions

The Los Angeles Lakers added new pieces to the team with the hope that they can built a competitive team alongside iconic guard LeBron James and superstar shooting guard Luka Doncic. Center Deandre Ayton and forward Jake LaRavia.

Ayton, the No. 1 overall draft pick in new teammate Luka Doncic‘s 2018 class, has started 391 of his 398 career games with the Phoenix Suns (2018-23) and Portland Trail Blazers (2023-25), towards averages of 16.4 points on 59.0% FG’s, 10.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks.

“The teams that me and my agents evaluated during that time span, I feel that the Lakers was the best fit,” he said. “Being around the two best playmakers in the league, and just Laker Nation, having the fan base behind them (like) I’ve never seen before and just to be a part of it, knowing the winning legacy that this organization has. I know the expectations. I know that winning means a lot here.”

Needless to say, Deandre‘s very excited about the prospect of playing alongside Doncic and LeBron.
