Brittney Griner suffers from “selective amnesia”: She no longer remembers what she said to Caitlin Clark

Over three weeks after a viral clip caught the Atlanta Dream star Brittney Griner allegedly muttering “f*cking white girl” as she fouled out against the Indiana Fever, the WNBA veteran finally faced questions about the incident. And her response? A surprising case of selective amnesia.

Meeting with media ahead of Sunday’s game against the Washington Mystics, Griner was directly asked what she said in the now-infamous video. She acknowledged being upset at the time and recalled the play in detail – the foul, the frustration, even who she fouled. But when pressed about her actual words caught on camera?

“I really can’t remember what I said, honestly,” Griner claimed.

When offered the chance to watch the video to jog her memory, she shut it down:

“No, that wouldn’t help.”

Griner’s suspicious refusal

The exchange only added fuel to the fire of speculation. While some viewers insist Griner said “f*cking white girl” to Caitlin Clark, others argue it was simply “f*cking whack call.” But if it were the latter, critics argue, why wouldn’t Griner just watch the clip and clear the air?

The silence – and now the denial – is prompting questions not just about what Griner said, but about how the WNBA has handled the situation. Notably, the league has not launched an investigation, nor responded to multiple media inquiries about the incident.

This stands in stark contrast to their recent swift probe into false claims of racism directed at Angel Reese by Indiana Fever fans – a case that ultimately yielded no wrongdoing.

The league has not investigated the incident

The apparent double standard hasn’t gone unnoticed. OutKick, the only outlet to directly question Griner on the matter, highlighted the contrast while noting a visible campaign of “No Space for Hate” signage throughout the Mystics’ arena – messaging that seems to ring hollow without accountability.

So far, the league’s silence and Griner’s refusal to clarify continue to raise eyebrows.

She remembers the foul. She remembers the play. But when it comes to a sentence that could have major implications, Griner suddenly draws a blank – leaving fans and critics wondering whether that memory lapse is genuine, or just conveniently timed.
