Brittany Mahomes remodels the backyard of their home without telling Patrick Mahomes

Since the Super Bowl era for the Chiefs ended much earlier than expected, Brittany Mahomeshas kept things low-key at home and noticeably quieter on social media. This time of year is usually reserved for travel, media appearances, and preparing to watch Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs compete on the league’s biggest stage. Instead, the Mahomes household found itself facing a very different February, one without football obligations and with far more time spent together at home.

Despite staying mostly under the radar this off-seaspm, Brittany shared a video that revealed how she has been filling that unexpected downtime. Family clearly came first. Rather than focusing on the postseason buzz that usually surrounds them, she shifted her attention to keeping things light and meaningful at home, especially for the kids. With cold weather setting the scene, she decided to start a project that was never part of Patrick’s usual Super Bowl-season routine.

When Super Bowl plans change, creativity takes over

With snow on the ground but not quite enough to naturally support a build, Brittany leaned into a DIY idea inspired online: building an igloo in their backyard. Tthe idea fit the moment. It was hands-on, kid-friendly, and made the most of weather that often feels more limiting than fun.

Brittany went all in, buying aluminum trays, filling them with water and dye, and leaving them outside for days so they could freeze into colorful ice blocks. Those blocks became the foundation of the igloo. What looked effortless on social media was anything but.

The backyard had effectively been remodeled into a winter play space, one Patrick only discovered once it was already well underway. Even so, his reaction said it all. He showed his appreciation, praising Brittany as the best mom, a small but telling moment that highlighted how much the project meant beyond the final result.

The finished igloo may not have been perfect, but it didn’t need to be. It held up, looked impressive, and most importantly, the kids loved it. They were seen climbing inside, helping with the ice blocks, and painting them with watercolors, fully invested in the experience.

Finding perspective away from the spotlight

There was also a quiet subtext to the project. With no Super Bowl to attend and Patrick in the middle of rehab after a tough end to the season due to injury, the igloo became a way to redirect energy. Brittany even acknowledged the disappointment, hinting they would do better next time, while also making it clear that recreating a project like this wouldn’t be easy or quick.

The backyard igloo was a reminder that even for one of the NFL’s most high-profile families, seasons don’t always end as planned. When they don’t, moments like these, simple, creative, and centered on family, can matter just as much as any Super Bowl appearance.
