The National League Championship Series has been a nightmare for the Milwaukee Brewers as they lost the first two games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who now travel home with the possibility of finishing the series and ending the hopes of the team with the best record in MLB in 2025.
But that’s not all, a Brewers fan became a national trend after being involved in a verbal altercation with a Dodgers fan during the second game of the series. The moment was caught on video and quickly went viral on social media, prompting immediate consequences for the fan.Shannon Kobylarczyk was recorded telling Ricardo Fosado, a US citizen of Mexican descent, to “call ICE”, a comment that was branded xenophobic, sparking criticism and costing her her job and position with the charity.
Who is Shannon Kobylarczyk and what are the consequences of her viral video at Brewers vs Dodgers game?
Kobylarczyk was an employee of ManpowerGroup, a Milwaukee-based recruitment firm, which after the video was released said the fan was placed on immediate leave while an internal investigation was conducted. Finally, on October 15, it was announced that she was no longer officially with the company:
We are committed to a culture based on respect, integrity and responsibility
In addition to losing her job, Shannon also resigned from the board of Make A Wish Wisconsin, where she volunteered, a decision that was confirmed by the foundation, which sought to distance itself following the incident with the Dodgers’ Latino fan.
What happened at American Family Field in the MLB Championship Series and how did the victim react?
Ricardo Fosado, originally from Los Angeles, was in Milwaukee on business so he decided to attend the America Family Field to watch his Dodgers beat the Brewers. The Mexican-American began filming with his cell phone and questioning the silence of the local fans when he was confronted by Shannon Kobylarczyk, who yelled at him derogatorily and suggested calling the immigration authorities.
Despite what happened, Fosado showed empathy for Shannon and in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, he said:
I don’t think it’s something that deserves him to lose his job… we all make mistakes
However, he also acknowledged that the situation “reflects what many people really think”. Ricardo Fosado was escorted out of the stadium by security staff and was no longer able to witness his team’s victory.
