Fernando Mendoza has just gained a new fan. After his dominant 2025-2026 season, which ended with an NCAA championship and the Heisman Trophy, Mendoza has received endorsements from many NFL personalities. The latest? None other than Super Bowl XXXI champion Brett Favre.
And it’s no wonder, as the former Indiana Hoosiers quarterback put up extraordinary numbers in three seasons of college football:
- 691 completions out of 1,008 attempts
- 68.6% completion rate
- 8,247 yards
- 71 touchdown passes
- 22 interceptions
- 156.2 passer rating
His stat line and long list of accolades make Mendoza the top candidate for the 2026 NFL Draft, and Favre completely agrees with the scouts and recruiters.
Mendoza gets Favre’s endorsement
In a recent interview with TMZ, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback didn’t hesitate to heap praise on the former Hoosiers star. “Mendoza checks all the boxes,” Favre said.
I don’t know if there’s a better leader out there at the quarterback position, certainly not in college,” Favre said. “Just a classy young man.
According to the three-time MVP, Mendoza’s greatest strength is knowing how to win. “I don’t think he’s overly talented, and I don’t mean any disrespect that way. I think he does everything well enough to win.”
While Favre is praising Mendoza, the young prospect is eagerly awaiting the opportunity to work with another NFL legend: Tom Brady.
Mendoza admitted his admiration for Tom Brady
In a media session during the NFL Scouting Combine, Mendoza admitted he’s anxious to work with Brady. “I mean, who hasn’t admired Tom Brady?” he told ESPN.
“That opportunity would be fantastic,” the former Hoosier said. “Tom Brady, I believe, was the greatest quarterback of all time by a wide margin, and to have the opportunity to be mentored by him would be so much.”
The Raiders, it should be noted, have the first pick in the 2026 draft, and Brady is a minority owner of the team. “To potentially have a mentor like that, it’d be pretty impressive and pretty meaningful.”
