Brandon Nimmo admits to having problems and Carlos Mendoza tries to cheer him up

The New York Mets are going through a tough time and one of their most reliable players, outfielder Brandon Nimmo, has been the reflection of this streak. In a couple of recent games, Nimmo struck out a total of six times, the first time all season he has experienced such a streak. This slump in his performance, coupled with the team’s offensive struggles, has put the player at the center of the debate.

After the 3-2 loss to the Guardians, which was the Mets’ seventh loss in eight games, Nimmo was reflective on his performance. It is clear that criticism is always going to be there in such a competitive sport and in such a big club, so there is no choice but to put up with it and be self-critical.

Nimmo’s positive attitude

“It’s part of baseball, you have to get over it. There’s really no way around it,” commented Brandon Nimmo. His slump is not limited to the last two games, as he has struck out at least once in 16 of his last 17 games.

Nimmo’s failures were particularly critical in the recent defeat, as he left Juan Soto in scoring position on two occasions, which could have changed the course of the game. The player assumes his role in the team despite the bad moment, as he has the necessary experience to reverse the situation.

Carlos Mendoza’s defense

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza came to his player’s defense after the game, acknowledging that opponents are doing a good job of exploiting his weaknesses. “Nimmo is swinging at fastballs, they’re doing a good job of attacking him,” Mendoza explained, stressing that even the most consistent players have their ups and downs.

Despite the difficulties, Nimmo is a key piece in the Mets’ lineup, having been a reliable starter in recent seasons. At 32 years of age, he has proven to be one of the most consistent players on the team and both he and Mendoza are confident that this is just a temporary bump in the road. As Mendoza put it, the most solid players also go through “streaks where they’re not seeing the ball like they normally would.”
