Brandon Graham, who announced his retirement earlier this year, has reportedly spoken with the team about a possible return to the field.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, those conversations have already begun, sparking excitement among fans and teammates who would love to see No. 55 suit up again.
The 37-year-old walked away from the game in February after helping the Eagles capture another Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
It was a remarkable comeback story in itself, as Graham returned from a serious torn triceps injury suffered late last season and even re-aggravated the muscle during Philadelphia’s championship run. Few expected him to return to full form, let alone entertain another season.
But with the Eagles‘ defense currently underperforming, the timing may be right for one last ride.
Philadelphia ranks near the bottom of the league in sacks and injuries have thinned the rotation at defensive end. A healthy Graham could bring leadership, physicality, and depth to a defensive line that once thrived under his presence.
Jason Kelce hints Graham may still have “the itch” to play
Speculation about Graham‘s possible comeback grew stronger after former teammate Jason Kelce addressed the topic during his appearance on WIP-FM this week.
Kelce, who shared two Super Bowl wins with Graham, said the veteran’s energy and toughness would be a welcome boost for a defense that’s been hit hard by injuries.
“They’ve been banged up on the edge, banged up with Nolan Smith. They would benefit from having his [Graham] physicality and the way he plays defensive end on the field,” Kelce said.
“Outside of that, I only want Brandon Graham to play football if he wants to play football. I don’t think when he retired he fully wanted to stop playing football. It felt like he got convinced that it was time to hang it up. And I don’t know this, I think at the end of the day if Brandon in his heart wants to come back, I think the Eagles should damn sure give him that opportunity because I think they need that.”
Kelce’s comments quickly fueled the rumor mill, particularly because of his close ties to the franchise and his understanding of the locker room dynamic.
