Boxer Devin Haney is once again at the center of controversy, this time over a new lawsuit against his ex-fiancee, Leena Sayed. The athlete is seeking the return of high-value gifts, such as jewelry and luxury handbags, that he allegedly gave her on the eve of their marriage, claiming that since the wedding was canceled, California law requires her to return them.
A millionaire lawsuit
According to documents filed in Los Angeles County, Haney claims the items, valued at $350,000, include exclusive Hermès handbags, an Audemars Piguet watch and several diamond jewelry.
The lawsuit is based on the premise that these gifts were given on the condition that the couple would marry and if not, they would have to be returned, which Haney claims and which has him in a legal conflict with his ex-wife.
It is not the first lawsuit
This is the second time in less than a month that the boxer has sued Sayed. A few weeks ago, Haney accused her of extortion and defamation.
Leena’s lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told TMZ that “this appears to be an extension of his campaign to punish her for having obtained a domestic violence restraining order against him, after suing her civilly for what she had to file in court to get the restraining order. He needs to get real.”
The couple, who met about two years ago, have a daughter, Khrome, who was born in January. The legal conflict between the two, which has escalated rapidly, now includes a dispute over property that the boxer values at more than $500,000 in damages.
