Bob Melvin out of San Francisco Giants after missing MLB Playoffs

Even with their victory over the Colorado Rockies, San Francisco fell short in numbers and let the ticket to the MLB Playoffs slip away. The team’s terrible record during the regular season led management to make the decision to part ways with Bob Melvin as manager. The Giants did not waste any more time and will now look to prepare to perform better next season.

Melvin seemed to understand the decision and showed uncertainty about his near future: “It is what it is. We’ll see what the next day brings,” he said. Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey also issued a statement. “I met with Bob to inform him of my decision. I want to express my appreciation to Bob for his professionalism,” he said.

Rangers’ Bruce Bochy already sounds like a Giants manager

Former Giants manager Bob Melvin spent two seasons with the San Diego Padres before joining San Francisco in 2024. Prior to that, he was with the Oakland Athletics from 2011 to 2021, so his return to the Bay Area was short-lived and ended with a 161-163 record

What the Giants do now remains to be seen, although former SF manager Bruce Bochy, who is currently with the Texas Rangers, has seen his name floated as a possible option. Nonetheless, the franchise is looking for a new manager, and now Posey, the former SF catcher, will help lead the charge in hopes of returning to the postseason.

Logan Webb makes San Francisco Giants pitching history

Logan Webb surely wishes he had a playoff game to pitch. But the right-hander did absolutely everything he could this season for the San Francisco Giants, even if the campaign ended earlier than the team would have liked. He led the National League in innings pitched and strikeouts

In doing so, he became the first Giants pitcher to lead the NL in both categories in the same season since 1944, according to Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area. Webb finished the campaign with 207.0 innings and 224 strikeouts. It is the third consecutive season in which he has led the NL in innings, but it was by far his best personal mark in strikeouts.
