The 2025 BMW Championship, one of the most prestigious events on the PGA Tour calendar, promises high drama-and even higher stakes. As the second leg of the FedExCup Playoffs, the tournament is not only a gateway to the season finale at East Lake but also a lucrative opportunity for the world’s top 50 golfers to secure life-changing payouts. With a purse of $20 million, the competition is fierce, and every stroke could be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

This year’s event returns to the acclaimed Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland, a venue known for its challenging layout and enthusiastic galleries. What makes the BMW Championship unique is the absence of a cut, ensuring that every player who tees it up on Thursday is guaranteed a share of the prize money. As the field battles for position in the FedExCup standings, the financial rewards offer additional motivation, setting the stage for an intense weekend of golf.

Prize Money Breakdown

The total prize purse for the BMW Championship 2025 stands at $20 million, with the winner taking home $3.6 million, which represents 18% of the overall purse.

  • 1st place: $3,600,000
  • 2nd place: $2,160,000
  • 3rd place: $1,360,000
  • 4th place: $990,000
  • 5th place: $830,000
  • 6th place: $750,000
  • 50th place: $66,000

This generous distribution ensures that even players who finish near the bottom walk away with a substantial paycheck. With no cut and only 50 players in the field, every participant is rewarded for making it this far in the playoffs.

FedExCup Context

Beyond the money, the tournament carries major implications for the FedExCup. The winner of the BMW Championship also earns 2,000 FedExCup points, a critical advantage heading into the final playoff event, the Tour Championship. In 2025, the PGA Tour introduced a revamped playoff bonus structure, spreading $100 million in FedExCup bonus money across three stages of the playoffs.

After the regular season, the top 10 players in the standings split $20 million, with $10 million going to the No. 1 seed. Following the BMW Championship, the top 30 share another $23.93 million, with a $5 million bonus for the leader. Finally, the FedExCup champion crowned at East Lake will take home a $10 million prize, down from the $25 million awarded in previous years.

The BMW Championship 2025 is more than just a stop on the playoff schedule-it’s a high-stakes test of skill, pressure, and endurance. For the players, it’s a chance to chase glory and secure their spot in golf’s richest finale. For fans, it’s a thrilling preview of what’s to come at East Lake.
