Bivol passes on Canelo Alvarez for Gilberto Ramirez, but Zurdo warns him: “I’m faster and stronger”

Dmitry Bivol is enjoying his best moment after taking the Light Heavyweight belts by winning the rematch against Artur Beterbiev.

Now the Russian, with a 24-1 record, holds the WBC, WBO, IBF and IBO world 175-pound titles and talks about several options for his future.

“Maybe we can talk about cruiserweight. I’ll think about it too. I have belts here, I need to check the cruiserweight,” said the absolute monarch of the light heavyweights.

And in the 200-pound division, Gilberto Ramirez (47-1, 30KOs) appears as the World Boxing Organization champion, a title he won in November 2024 by defeating Chris Billam-Smith by unanimous decision.

Bivol and Zurdo Ramirez already met in 2022 in the light heavyweight division, with the Russian winning by unanimous decision in a division in which the Mexican did not feel comfortable.

“I would love to fight Bivol again at cruiserweight. The rematch against Bivol would be better, it was hard for me to get to 175 pounds. I don’t take anything away from him, but I wasn’t 100% against him that night, but it happened and I’ve moved on. I’m stronger and faster at cruiserweight. My weight is good because I’m not exhausting myself. It will be different for me,” he told The Ring.

Ramirez’s next fight would be against Cuban fighter Yuniel Dorticos (27-2, 25KOs), although the fight has not been made official.

What’s going on with David Benavidez and Artur Beterbiev

But moving up to cruiserweight is just one of the options for Dmitry Bivol, as he would be obliged to face David Benavidez (30-0) by mandate of the World Boxing Council, but also the possibility of a trilogy against Beterbiev (21-1), which is what Turki Alalshikh, the promoter who takes the best fights to Saudi Arabia, wants.

“I have no preference. Whatever people want to see, I accept it. No problem,” Bivol said about his next fight.

If the fight against Beterbiev is repeated, Jose Benavidez Sr., David’s father, has already mentioned the possibility of the Mexican Monster moving to cruiserweight to challenge Gilberto Ramirez, who is also on the list of Jai Opetaia (27-0), champion of the International Boxing Federation, and who has the backing of Turki Al-Sheikh to face the Mexican.

However, on this occasion the Russian did not talk about the possibility of giving Canelo Alvarez a rematch, whom he defeated in 2022 by unanimous decision.
