Bills double down to help out Josh Allen: New additions aim to shore up Buffalo’s offense

The Buffalo Bills are sprinting into the 2025 season with one objective: equip Josh Allen with a roster built for consistency and sustained success. After a promising 2024 campaign ended in heartbreak, the Bills are refusing to rely on hope – they’re building for reality.

NFL analysts have projected Buffalo as the league’s top offense in 2025, though they note the supporting cast, outside of James Cook and Khalil Shakir, still leans more on potential than proven output. For a team that fell just short of a championship, that’s not enough anymore.

Head coach Sean McDermott and general manager Brandon Beane have responded. In training camp, Buffalo added two receivers – Deon Cain and Kelly Akharaiyi – to bolster a unit wracked by injuries.

At least four receivers, including Curtis Samuel and Elijah Moore, along with top tight ends Dalton Kincaid and Dawson Knox, were unavailable for the first padded practice.

With injuries decimating depth, the signings were urgent moves to maintain stability. Cain, previously in camp with the Bills, now returns on a one-year deal, while Akharaiyi – a Mississippi State standout and former UTEP star – aims to carve out a role deep in the rotation.

An offense built to win

Despite missing some key players, expectations remain sky-high in Orchard Park. Buffalo’s offense is still viewed as one of the most explosive in the league, thanks largely to Allen’s dynamic ability and the creativity of offensive coordinator Joe Brady.

Supporting cast enhancements have continued. The signing of Elijah Moore earlier this offseason solidified a target with clear chemistry with Allen, while the arrival of Joshua Palmer and Laviska Shenault Jr. adds depth and versatility to the wideout room.

Meanwhile, Buffalo’s faithful remain optimistic about breakout years from young assets like Keon Coleman and Dalton Kincaid. A recent poll among fans even pegged Coleman as the favorite to lead the team in receiving touchdowns for 2025.

James Cook is also poised to play a major role again. The Pro Bowl back, who led the league in rushing touchdowns last year, is reportedly seeking a contract renewal – and is expected to be back on the practice field soon.

More than a patch job

These roster moves aren’t just stopgap repairs. They’re part of a deliberate strategy to build sustainable offensive depth and balance. Allen has explicitly voiced his desire for consistency and support – especially in the aftermath of costly playoff losses.

Akharaiyi offers big-play speed and separation potential, while Cain brings experience and reliability. Combined with internal talent and established contributors, the Bills are betting that execution-not just star power-will carry them forward.

If everyone stays healthy, there’s little reason to doubt the Bills could repeat their offensive dominance and, more importantly, push into championship contention.

Whether it results in a Lombardi Trophy or another near-miss, this is the kind of team Josh Allen – and Buffalo-now expect to be.
