Bill Belichick, the former head coach of the New England Patriots and an eight-time Super Bowl champion, is once again a prominent figure in NFL coaching discussions.
After his surprising departure from the Patriots in January, the 72-year-old Belichick was overlooked during the 2024 head coach hiring cycle.
Nevertheless, he has expressed a strong desire to return to coaching in 2025, leaving many to wonder where he might land next.
According to Bookies.com, the Dallas Cowboys currently lead the betting odds to hire Belichick, with a favorable +200. Following closely behind are the Philadelphia Eagles at +350, and Belichick’s former team, the New York Giants, at +750.
Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy is in a contract year and has a lackluster playoff record of 1-3. Owner Jerry Jones is known for his patience with coaches, but if the Cowboys face another disappointing playoff exit, a change may be on the horizon.
Similarly, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni may find himself on shaky ground, especially with his team starting the season at 2-2 after an underwhelming end to the previous year. Both Dallas and Philadelphia are in “win-now” mode, which makes them viable candidates for Belichick’s coaching services.
Belichick wants to coach a team ready to win
Given that Belichick will turn 73 next year, it’s unlikely he would choose to lead a rebuilding team. His sights are set on breaking Don Shula’s record for most career head coaching wins, which would necessitate joining a team with a strong roster.
The Cowboys and Eagles both fit that description, presenting Belichick with opportunities to vie for another championship.
Other potential candidates for Belichick’s expertise include the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals, both of which have underperformed this season, currently holding records of 0-4 and 1-3, respectively. However, given Belichick’s illustrious career and ambitions, a contender with a proven track record seems the most likely destination for the legendary coach.
As the 2025 coaching landscape takes shape, all eyes will be on Belichick as fans and analysts speculate on where he will continue his remarkable journey in the NFL.
