Better than Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua? Moses Itauma is destined for greatness according to world class trainer

The heavyweight division in boxing is in a great place, but it’s also on the verge of entering a transition period. Oleksandr Usyk continues to reign supreme, sitting on the heavyweight throne with practically no real threat as he nears 39 years old. Behind him are the high-profile stars who have lost to Usyk twice, which includes Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.

Then there are the legit veteran challengers in Joseph Parker, Agit Kabayel and Fabio Wardley. Behind them and some other veterans awaits a sleeping giant, whose name is Moses Itauma. The 20-year-old has already made a name for himself, thanks to a statement first round TKO win over Dillian Whyte in August. Itauma might be young, but he’s already prepared for a world title shot.

Whether that comes soon remains to be seen. In the meantime, his hype has reached sky-high levels. That’s for good reason, given how easily he has swept aside his competition to this point. But even what we’ve seen may just be a taste of what’s to come.

Ben Davison says Moses Itauma has best shot to beat Oleksandr Usyk of any heavyweight

Itauma’s trainer, Ben Davison, has come out to deliver a bold claim regarding the up-and-coming star. Davison believes Itauma can be the best pure boxer in the entire world. The trainer recently spoke to talkSPORT about Itauma’s potential.

I don’t think this country has ever produced a pound-for-pound best boxer in the world. I think we have an opportunity to do that. I don’t think a heavyweight, barring now a bit of talk with Usyk. For a heavyweight – a British heavyweight – to have the potential to be the pound-for-pound best boxer in the world, that’s what we’ve got when it comes to Moses Itauma.

Davison also went on to say that no one has a better chance to beat Usyk right now than Itauma. It’s extremely high praise given that Davison has worked with both Fury and Joshua in the past, as well as Wardley and other great boxers.
