But for 17-year-old Kai Trump, granddaughter of US President Donald Trump, these tournaments come with a unique twist-Secret Service agents quietly patrolling the course.
In a recent YouTube video alongside her father, Donald Trump Jr., Kai spoke openly about the realities of growing up in one of America’s most public families.
While many teens focus on social media and high school activities, Kai’s world includes advanced tee times, tournament scorecards, and bodyguards.
“I feel like no matter where, no matter what, I’ll probably never have the privacy as like other kids my age,” she shared in the video. “I kind of just got to deal with it,” she added, showing the kind of poise more often seen in veteran athletes than in high school students.
Donald Trump Jr. provided some perspective on his daughter’s journey.
“With everything there’s a trade-off right,” he noted, highlighting the mix of privilege and pressure Kai navigates.
Yet Kai seems unfazed. Her commitment to the University of Miami’s golf program, where she’ll begin playing collegiate golf in 2026, stands as a testament to her dedication.
And her resume already includes notable accomplishments, such as winning two Trump International Palm Beach club championships and maintaining a +0.5 handicap-an impressive stat in junior golf that underscores her ability to compete with top talent.
Influence of family, mentors and the game itself
As much as her surname opens doors, Kai credits her work ethic and inspiration to her grandfather. “Grandpa hardly sleeps,” she revealed with a laugh, describing former President Trump’s unrelenting energy as “crazy.”
Her father chimed in with a story about the elder Trump’s stamina.
“When I watched a 78-year-old man do two all-nighters in a row… and then the next day he’s on the golf course at 8:30,” he said, clearly still in awe. That kind of endurance, Kai explained, fuels her own passion for the game.
