Bears quarterback Caleb Williams wins hearts with thoughtful gesture for former NFL star’s family

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams recently surprised the children of retired NFL legend Ndamukong Suh with custom Bears jerseys.

The gesture, shared by Suh on social media, prompted an affectionate response that highlighted Williams’s generosity and Suh’s amusement.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Suh invited his sons to open the gifts on camera.

“Alright boys, a friend of daddy, who is a very high-level NFL draft pick, footballer, who plays in the Windy City, sent you guys a gift… So first of all, say thank you. Open it up,” Suh said as his children unwrapped the jerseys.

The boys’ excited expressions made for a wholesome moment that was widely shared among fans.

Suh added: “Thanks Caleb Williams for the jerseys! The boys love them!” Then with a playful twinge, he joked, “And NGL, kinda makes me want to come out of retirement to get one more sack in on you. Much love!”

A wardrobe upgrade that sparks nostalgia and camaraderie

What looked like a simple act of kindness turned into a moment charged with meaning.

Williams, who starred for USC and Oklahoma before being drafted No. 1 in 2024 and becoming the Bears’ starting quarterback, is known for his commitment both on the field and off it

Meanwhile, Suh retired on July 12, 2025, roughly a year after losing his father, and his comments about stepping away from football were deeply personal.

Suh‘s lighthearted remark about possibly returning, inspired by the gift, echoes his legacy as a dominant defensive force, but even more it underscores how athletes can connect across generations through moments of genuine warmth.

Community and goodwill beyond the gridiron

Williams‘s act aligns with his established focus on youth engagement and anti-bullying initiatives.

As the NFLPA’s Community MVP for Week 14 of 2024, he transformed his USC jersey retirement ceremony into an event for local children, bringing them into pregame activities, creating learning opportunities, and inviting them onto the field to run with him and his teammates

This recent gesture toward Suh‘s family adds a new layer to his off-field persona, showing how a simple gift can resonate far beyond a jersey.

With Suh now retired, having earned multiple Pro Bowls and AllPro nods, the moment drew attention not just to Williams‘s kindness, but to the broader mutual respect between generations in the league.

At a time when Williams is settling into his second NFL season under new head coach Ben Johnson, whose mentorship carries high expectations, moments like this help illustrate the kind of leader and representative he is shaping up to be.
