Bears fans turn on Caleb Williams after rough rookie season: “Biggest fraud in the league”

Caleb Williams’ star is dimming – and fast. With the NFL regular season inching closer, the Chicago Bears quarterback is working hard to improve on a rough rookie campaign. But despite his efforts, many fans aren’t convinced he’s the future of the franchise.

Williams entered the league with sky-high expectations. Drafted first overall in 2024 out of USC, he was supposed to be the answer to Chicago’s decades-long quarterback woes and turn the Bears into a contender. Instead, the results were anything but promising.

The Bears finished the 2024 season with a disappointing 5-12 record, and Williams’ individual stats didn’t help. In 17 games, he completed 351 of 562 passes for 3,541 yards, 20 touchdowns, six interceptions – and a staggering 68 sacks. Not only was that a team record, it was the third-most in NFL history.

And fans haven’t forgotten.

Fans rip into Williams online

While Williams works to adapt to new head coach Ben Johnson’s offensive system during training camp, the criticism has only intensified. A post on X (formerly Twitter) featuring Williams discussing his work with Johnson triggered an avalanche of angry replies.

“Biggest fraud in the league,” one fan wrote.

“That won’t work for Caleb Williams. He likes to hold onto the ball and get sacked,” said another, referencing last season’s alarming sack numbers. Others piled on with comments like:

“He keeps talking about the years ahead. This is an unforgiving league. He has to produce now.”

“Caleb Williams is DONE. MARK the tape. He is a flameout.”

“Gonna be a first-read wonder. On his merry way to being a bust – and I’m here for it.”

“Can’t stand this guy.”

The message is clear: the fanbase has already lost patience.

Williams blocks out the noise

Despite the growing frustration outside the facility, Williams remains locked in. He’s focused on mastering the intricacies of Johnson’s new offensive scheme.

“There are so many more layers we haven’t gone over yet, just because it’s our first year,” Williams said. “There’s so much more within this offense to be able to unlock it.”

He also expressed optimism about their progress. “Hopefully there’s a next step. And if not, it’s going to be next year,” he added – a comment that may not sit well with a fan base demanding wins now.

Whether Williams can flip the narrative remains to be seen, but with the pressure mounting and the clock ticking, Chicago’s young QB is running out of time to silence his critics.
