Barracuda Championship 2025 Prize Money: How much does the winner take home?

The world’s top golfers from the PGA Tour and DP World Tour are competing from July 17 to 20, 2025, at the Tahoe Mountain Club (Old Greenwood) for the 27th edition of the Barracuda Championship-a tournament known for its unique Modified Stableford format, the only one of its kind on the official schedule.

The Barracuda Championship is an official PGA Tour and DP World Tour event held opposite the Open Championship, making it an “opposite-field” tournament. Despite its lower profile, the event awards 300 FedExCup points and 4,250 DP World Tour points to the winner.

Since 2022, the event has been co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour, increasing its international appeal and competitive significance.

The Prize Fund and Winner’s Earnings

The total purse for the tournament is $4 million.

The winner will take home $720,000, which represents 18% of the total purse.

This is the same amount awarded to last year’s champion, Nick Dunlap, who secured the victory in 2024 and walked away with the same $720,000 prize.

According to the official PGA TOUR payout structure, the champion receives 18% of the purse, while the runner-up earns around 10.9%, equal to $436,000. Third place gets 6.9% or $276,000, followed by fourth with 4.9% ($196,000), and fifth with 4.1% ($164,000).

Here’s a simplified summary of the top payouts:

  • 1st place: $720,000 (18%)
  • 2nd place: $436,000 (10.9%)
  • 3rd place: $276,000 (6.9%)
  • 4th place: $196,000 (4.9%)
  • 5th place: $164,000 (4.1%)

The rest of the players who make the cut receive gradually smaller amounts, with the 65th place still earning about $8,600.

What the $720,000 Prize Means

Within the PGA Tour, the Barracuda Championship ranks among the lower-paying events, especially compared to some tournaments that offer $20 million or more in total purse.

Nevertheless, the $720,000 prize is still a significant reward, especially considering that the winner also earns a PGA Tour exemption, invitations to high-profile events like THE PLAYERS and the PGA Championship, and valuable Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points.

While not among the Tour’s richest events, the tournament continues to serve as a meaningful opportunity for rising stars and veterans alike to claim victory, earn points, and secure future tour status.
