The match that everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived, and on Sunday Barcelona and Real Madrid will fight for the title this season in LaLiga.
While it is true that the Spanish soccer campaign will have three matchdays remaining, the match is like an early final, and although there will be a few more weeks, this match goes beyond a title, it is about the pride of being named the best club in one of the most important leagues on the planet.
Barcelona go into El Clasico as the leaders of the tournament with 79 points, compared to Los Blancos’ 75, so a victory for the Catalans would put them seven points clear, and while a win would not officially give them the championship with nine points still to play for, everyone knows that it would mean winning the tournament virtually.
While Real Madrid, if they win, would move to within just one point of the Blaugrana, but a victory for Los Merengues would mean much more.
Real Madrid fans have an incomparable desire to beat their arch-rivals, after the Catalans already beat them in the final of the Supercopa de Espana, the final of the Copa del Rey and also humiliated them in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu by thrashing them 5-2.
However, not everything is rosy for Hansi Flick‘s side after their elimination from the Champions League.
“We are fine, after the defeat in Milan everyone knows that it is not easy, but we are doing things well, we have talked about what we want to do in these two weeks,” said the Catalan coach. “The Clasico is important, we have to show how well we can play. We have to show confidence. The players are doing very well.”
Another fight in the match is the race for the Pichichi between Robert Lewandowski with 25 in the season and Kylian Mbappe with 24, however, it is doubtful that the Pole will be able to start due to the injuries he has suffered lately.
“We have to be careful. Then we have three more games left. Maybe they will have minutes in the second half,” said Flick referring to Lewandowski and Balde.
