Barcelona is working with the intention that Lionel Messi will be the protagonist of the total inauguration of the remodeled Spotify Camp Nou, scheduled for the beginning of the 2026-27 season, in an event that will serve as a tribute to the Argentine star, sources from the club have confirmed to EFE.
The forward had to leave the Catalan club in the summer of 2021 due to the financial problems of the Blaugrana and first joined French side PSG before signing for Inter Miami, the team he currently plays for.
For all these reasons, Messi was unable to say goodbye to Barcelona fans at the stadium, something that the club had as an outstanding debt as he is the best player in the history of the club.
All indications are that the work on the new stadium, which will already host the Joan Gamper trophy this summer with a reduced capacity of around 30,000 spectators, will be completed at the beginning of the 2026-27 season with the installation of the roof and this is when the total capacity of 105,000 spectators will be reached.
This is when the official inauguration of the stadium would take place. If there is any delay in the installation of the roof, the inauguration and the tribute to Messi would take place when the work is fully completed.
