Leo Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021, in a traumatic way for him and for all the fans, but they still had unfinished business. On Monday, they will be settled, at least financially. The Catalan club will pay him, and other players and coaches, the amounts still owed to them as stipulated in the agreements reached five years ago

The Barça will face tomorrow, June 30, the 16 million euros that it still owes to some players and coaches who agreed to defer, in December 2020, their salary to help the club, according to culemania. It is the eighth and final payment that remains and the order has already been given by the financial department of the board of Joan Laporta, so the payment will be made on Monday. Barça faced the same amount in June 2022, 2023 and 2024, and other payments, somewhat lower, in December 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

Of that 16 million, Leo Messi will receive an income of 5.95 million. The Inter Miami attacker is the footballer who had the most money deferred and has received in recent years because he was the one with the highest salary. The total amount that was deferred was 47.6 million.

Very wide list

But there are many players who extended their contracts to help the club and the board of Josep Maria Bartomeu. For example, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba will also receive on June 30 the last payment of the agreed amounts: the midfielder will receive 1.18 million euros and the left-back from L’Hospitalet, 943,879 euros.

But in Barcelona’s list, the names of Ronald Koeman, Luis Suarez, Griezmann, Coutinho, Umtiti, Dembele, Sergi Roberto, Pjanic, Ansu Fati, Pedri, Araujo, Inaki Pena and Riqui Puig will also finally appear crossed out. In addition, other players also extended their contracts, but did so through renewals. These are the cases of Frenkie de Jong, who is about to sign his extension, and Ter Stegen, who has been put on the market by Barcelona after the signing of Joan Garcia.

Paying off these debts will allow Barcelona to face the economic future with more relaxation and guarantees. These payments, which it has always made in the agreed manner and on time, were a burden on its coffers. The club’s accounts are starting to breathe, thanks also to other operations recently closed, such as the refinancing of the debt of the Espai Barca, the construction of the 456 VIP seats at the Spotify Camp Nou..
