Baltimore Orioles slugger goes ‘Happy Gilmore’ with 401-foot monster homer

The Baltimore Orioles are sitting at the bottom of the American League East Division, behind the Tampa Bay Rays, the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and first place Toronto Blue Jays.

It’s no surprise, then, that the Orioles – with their 47-58 record – are operating as sellers of this year’s trade deadlines because of their bad 2025 season. The franchise will be trading players on expiring contracts.

Saturday gave the team some relief, as Baltimore posted their largest shutout win in franchise history with an 18-0 blowout of the Colorado Rockies at Camden Yards. Starting pitcher Trevor Rogers gave a seven-inning gem, and 12 Orioles players had a hit in a impressive offensive performance.

Orioles slugger goes ‘Happy Gilmore’

The comedy “Happy Gilmore 2” dropped Friday on Netflix. A day later, Baltimore Orioles catcher Alex Jackson practically recreated the franchise’s signature move with an eighth-inning home run against the Colorado Rockies.

When “Happy Gilmore” first hit the big screen in the summer of 1996, actor Adam Sandler’s character became synonymous with his unorthodox golf swing that saw the former hockey player take three steps and drive the ball more than 400 yards.

Jackson put the finishing touches on Baltimore‘s blowout win Saturday night with two steps up the batter’s box and one big swing on a pitch from a position player. His solo shot didn’t go more than 400 yards, of course. But it eclipsed 400 feet to center field.

“Happy Gilmore 2” promises to deliver more laughs

“Happy Gilmore 2“, released on July 25 on Netflix, marks the return of the iconic character almost 30 years after his first victory in the Tour Championship.

The film not only reunites old acquaintances from the original cast, such as Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, but also draws on real-life settings that give this new installment a special touch.

While the original 1996 film was shot in Vancouver, Canada, the sequel was moved entirely to New Jersey, with filming taking place in nine different counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, and Warren. The filming left an investment of $152 million in New Jersey.
