Baker Mayfield accused of being petty over his take on the Brown’s QB battle

Baker Mayfield is enjoying his great time at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is basically doing what he pleases: saying what he wants, where he wants, and how he wants. However, there is something he even chose not to speak about that much, the mess regarding quarterbacks in Cleveland. According to media outlet ‘Fansisded‘, when they asked him about the Browns, Mayfield kept it brief but telling:

“Not my problem anymore. I plead the fifth.”

His short reply cut deep, sending NFL fans buzzing. Mayfield, picked first by the Browns in 2018, always had a tough go with them.

Nothing to do with the Browns anymore

They saw him as a star for their team. His time there had highs and lows. It witnessed a big win in 2020, their first in over 20 years, but also had hits, ups and downs, and a hard goodbye.

The Browns let him go in 2022, after they got Deshaun Watson for a huge sum. That move split not just Mayfield, but some fans too. Since then, Cleveland cannot find a steady quarterback. Watson got hurt and did no play to the level it was expected. In 2024, they got Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, but still seem lost.

Mayfield, on the other side, has fixed his image. In Tampa Bay, he took the Buccaneers to the playoffs and now many see him as the big team leader. His rise makes Cleveland’s ongoing troubles at quarterback seem even worse.

Short sentence causes a large reaction

Mayfield did not slam them out loud, but his “plead the fifth” spoke intense high volumes. It was a slick hint, full of intention and style. It fits him too: outspoken, confident, and never shy if he has something on his mind to say.

The Browns are still stuck looking for a good quarterback. The option of Baker Mayfield vanished long ago. He has moved on after that, and by his words and performances in Tampa Bay, he is loving every single bit of showing Cleveland they were wrong.

In love with controversies

Baker Mayfield just got out from another wave of hard backlash. Earlier this week, the famous quarteback did it again, joining NBA guard Alex Caruso in his attempt to laugh at both Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys fans as he appeared on Barstool Sports‘ Pardon My Take podcast.

Their comments quickly spreaded over social media and fans started to debate weather the comments came from a fair criticism or the two athletes were just reigniting a college football rivalry.
