Bad Bunny slammed for disrespecting ancient artefact ahead of NFL Super Bowl show

Bad Bunny is facing backlash for touching a historical artifact during a museum visit in Mexico City. The incident occurred as he concluded his Debí Tirar Más Fotos World Tour in mid-December.

The 31-year-old shared a photo of himself placing his hand on a carved Maya stone slab at the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH). The monument, likely dating from 250-900 AD, depicts rulers and hieroglyphic inscriptions.

INAH reminded the rapper that”physical contact with archaeological goods is prohibited”, stressing that handling artifacts threatens their preservation and long-term integrity. The online reaction was swift and harsh.

One X.com user wrote, “Obviously thought the rules didn’t apply to him because he’s famous, the superiority is sickening, they don’t know how to be humble.”

Another commented, “What privilege does he have to go around touching artifacts? F*ing ahole.”

A third added, “This a**hole thinks he’s a hotshot and touches stuff like it’s no big deal. Not even going to a museum gets rid of his tacky ways.”

Mexico’s Federal Law on Monuments forbids touching, damaging, or removing archaeological items. Violators risk fines or imprisonment. Bad Bunny has since deleted the controversial image from social media.

Bad Bunny to headline Super Bowl LX halftime show

Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show on February 8, 2026, at Levi’s Stadium in California.

This will be his second Super Bowl appearance, following a guest spot in 2020. He follows Kendrick Lamar’s performance in New Orleans in 2025.

“This is for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown,” Bad Bunny said. “This is for my people, my culture, and our history.”

The show will air live on NBC, Telemundo, and Peacock. The Super Bowl will feature teams determined through the NFL playoffs, with kickoff scheduled for 20:30 ET / 17:30 PT.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl preparation also involves careful attention to image and performance. He is expected to incorporate Puerto Rican cultural elements, blending music, dance, and visuals to highlight his heritage to a global audience.

The announcement previously drew criticism from former President Donald Trump, who called it “ridiculous” and “crazy,” while Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem assured enforcement of law at the event through ICE agents.

Meanwhile, Jay-Z, married to Beyoncé, praised the booking, stating, “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring,” calling the performance a cultural milestone on “the world’s biggest stage.”

Even amid criticism over his museum misstep, Bad Bunny continues to balance global fame, public scrutiny, and cultural responsibility. Fans and critics alike are now watching closely to see how he shapes his Super Bowl performance.
