The two of them are so adorable!Azzi Fudd and Paige Bueckers have become two visible faces and easily recognized for their play and exploits at UConn. The Huskies’ powerhouse duo has had some incredible accomplishments, but that’s not the reason they’re stealing the spotlight.
And that’s because their fans have not only cautiously watched their games, but also the bond between them for years now. Now that Azzi is “Paige Bueckers girlfriend” as she herself has written on her cell phone case, a curious nickname the Dallas star gave her has come to light.
Azzi’s nickname for Paige
In her time on the microphones of the podcast “Good Game With Sarah Spain“, Fudd shared a funny anecdote that not only shows the good bond the two had when they shared a team, but how affectionate and authentic their relationship is now.
While answering Sarah‘s question about how she conducts herself when brands seek advertising collaborations with her and whether she aspires to be a “mogul” in the future, Azzi joked that she already had a nickname for her company: “The People’s Princess.”
Of course, Spain quickly and curiously asked the origin of this name, to which the UConn guard revealed that it was because of her coach Geno Auriemma‘s preference for her:
I think Paige made a comment about how I’m the princess because coach [Auriemma] doesn’t yell at me and somehow that morphed into people calling me “The People’s Princess“…. Yeah, I’m not really sure. I know I’m not mad about it though.
The truth is that this nickname has stuck with her from that moment to the present day and she has no one else to thank but Bueckers.
Azzi and Paige’s relationship
Prior to the 2025 WNBA All-Star weekend, Bueckers spoke with PEOPLE and confirmed that she was in a relationship with Azzi Fudd: “That was just a setup,” she said regarding the WAG Talk Q&A video.
“We haven’t officially announced anything, but it’s just stuff has been happening that has it out there. So, it is what it is,” Paige said with a big smile.
During their time at UConn, the two recorded and posted several videos on TikTok together: from dances to celebrations. Plus, they seemed to never take off for a second. They did everything together. They were even there for each other when they tore their ACLs.
Together they also won the NCAA National Championship last season after a 3-year drought.
In addition, they attended the 2023 WNBA Draft to support Aliyah Boston and Nika Muhl. And of course Fudd went along and was present when Bueckers was selected as the number one overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings. And she was the first person she hugged.
The most recent post that has had her followers speculating was when on June 21 Fudd shared a story on her official Instagram account of her and her hairdresser doing each other’s hair. “The absolute best @haylesloganhair” she wrote. What stole the fans’ gaze, however, was her cell phone case. “Paige Bueckers girlfriend” it read.
Of course, this has made fans connect dots and deduce that they are a couple. After Paige’s viral video, the rumors are over: everyone can say “it is what it is“.
