With two weeks remaining before the end of the 2025-26 NBA season, it appears that the MVP award is slipping away from Slovenian star Luka Doncic. Despite consistently being in the top three in recent years, something has suddenly changed, leading to a dramatic fall in his standing.

March 2026 has been especially outstanding for the Los Angeles Lakers player. He has recorded 12 games scoring more than 30 points, and in his most recent appearance against the Brooklyn Nets at Crypto Arena, he once again delivered a spectacular performance.

However, it seems that even these remarkable displays have not been enough to keep him firmly in contention for the league’s top individual honor. On this matter, Austin Reaves made his stance clear.

Austin Reaves reacts to the NBA’s handling of Luka Doncic

It appears that the NBA has effectively pushed the European star out of the MVP race. He has now fallen to much lower positions than expected, a situation that did not sit well with Austin Reaves, who openly voiced his frustration.

He continues to drop in the MVP race, which is insane to me. I guess it don’t really matter, maybe he’s gotta score 60, I don’t know.

He stated this in the post-game press conference on Friday, where they beat the Nets 116-99.

The MVP race is currently being contested by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Nikola Jokic. Earlier in the week, Doncic was ranked second, but he has now fallen behind both Victor Wembanyama and Jokic.

Doncic has been a fundamental piece in the Lakers’ impressive 13-2 record throughout March. During this stretch, he recorded a 60-point game, which came after scoring 40 points the night before against the Houston Rockets, totaling 100 points across two consecutive games.

During a six-game road trip, Luka averaged 40 points per game. Performances of this magnitude had not been seen since Michael Jordan in 1986.

Regarding his sudden drop in the MVP rankings, fans did not remain silent and quickly expressed their frustration across social media platforms.

Austin Reaves thinks it’s crazy that Luka Doncic is dropping in the MVP race, saying “maybe he’s gotta score 60, I don’t know” . Luka Doncic just dropped 41 points against the Nets, and he’s leading the league in scoring with 33.7 points per game

In two weeks, it will become clear what ultimately happens with Luka and his position in the MVP race as the regular season reaches its conclusion.
