The president always tells me that I have to score two goals and today I scored two, they are for him,” was Vinicius‘ response after the victory against Atletico at the Bernabeu. A subtle statement that points directly to Simeone, who during the semifinal of the Spanish Super Cup told him “Florentino is going to kick you out. Remember that he is going to kick you out. He’s going to kick you out, remember what I’m telling you”.

This was compounded by what happened on social media. Atletico’s official account published the goals of the match without mentioning Vinicius in their own, using generic expressions such as “home goal” or “Real Madrid equalise from the penalty spot”. However, they did identify Valverde in the goal that made it 2-1, which made the contrast even more evident.
