Ashton Kutcher goes crazy for the Bears: “I’m going to wake up the Pope”

Ashton Kutcher has built a reputation far beyond his acting career: he’s one of the most recognizable celebrity supporters of the Chicago Bears.

His support of the Bears is so intense that the actor admitted he might even wake up the Pope, as he’s currently filming the series The Beauty in Rome.

“It’s midnight in Rome and I’m going to wake up the Pope,” he joked on X.

Born and raised in Iowa, Kutcher gravitated toward Chicago’s NFL franchise early in life, with the Bears being the nearest professional team to his childhood home.

His fandom has endured through both frustrating seasons and rare moments of glory, a dynamic common among Bears supporters.

Kutcher isn’t the only celebrity with a strong connection to the team, but he’s one of the most public about it.

The Bears organization itself lists him among a roster of well-known fans, from actors like Bill Murray to other notable figures such as Vince Vaughn and former President Barack Obama, all of whom have been associated with the franchise over the years.

Kutcher is a self-proclaimed Bears superfan

In a previous interview, Kutcher joked about Bears memorabilia filling his home, signed helmets in prominent places, and a passion that blends familial pride with regional identity.

His social media presence during key games reveals just how emotionally invested he is. In December, ahead of a pivotal matchup with the Green Bay Packers, Kutcher posted on Instagram that it was “probably the most important day in the history of humankind,” underscoring his dramatic, if tongue-in-cheek, approach to fandom.

Kutcher’s engagement isn’t limited to broad proclamations, either. On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, he revealed that Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles gave him his phone number so Kutcher could send observations during games, everything from player tendencies to defensive alignments.

“Ryan Poles made the mistake of giving me his phone number,” Kutcher said, laughing about how often he reaches out.

“I blow him up about things that I see,” he added, describing the level of detail he claims to send Poles on team tendencies and game film.

Kutcher says his messages go beyond typical fan chatter. For instance, he pointed to what he believes are subtle tells from Bears rookie Luther Burden, noting that “when it was a run play, he left his mouthpiece out every single time. He’s telling on every down.”

He also claims to break down defensive cues, saying the Green Bay Packers “fall into a ‘fuzzy zone’ when they blitz.”

The Bears’ front office has not publicly confirmed any formal advisory role for the actor.

Since being named GM, Ryan Poles has restructured Chicago’s roster and coaching hierarchy, aiming to put the Bears on a more competitive trajectory through both draft capital and impactful trades.
